An inside wireman is a highly skilled electrician who installs, connects and maintains electrical systems and equipment within commercial, industrial and institutional facilities. They handle everything from initial power distribution to lighting, fire alarms and complex control systems.
What type of work does an installer-technician perform?
An installer-technician specializes in installing, testing and maintaining low-voltage systems. This includes video, voice, data and security networks, offering a specialized career path.

Inside Wireman
Program Length: 4 years
Classroom Hours: 720 total hours, 180 hours per year
On-the-Job Hours: 8,000 hours per year
Other Requirements:
- Be 18 years or older at the time of indenture
- Complete the application
- Be a high school graduate or GED equivalent
- Provide an official high school transcript
- Provide an official post-secondary transcript (if applicable)
- Have passed an algebra course (either one credit year at the secondary level, three semester hours at a post-secondary institution or ETA Tech math course)
- Provide a copy of your birth certificate
- Must have the legal right to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to understand written instructions in American English
- Submit a $50 application fee
Installer-Technician
Program Length: 3 years
Classroom Hours: 540 total hours, 180 hours per year
On-the-Job Hours: 4,800 hours per year
Other Requirements:
- Be 18 years or older at the time of indenture
- Complete the application
- Be a high school graduate or GED equivalent
- Provide an official high school transcript
- Provide an official post-secondary transcript (if applicable)
