Iron Workers Local 290

The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers

Ironworkers fabricate, erect, assemble and install fabricated structural metal products in industrial, commercial or large residential buildings. Ironworkers are categorized according to four different skills:

Structural: Erect the steel framework of bridges, buildings and other structures, including metal storage tanks and overhead crane runways.

Riggers and Machine Movers: Set up and rig hoisting equipment for erecting and dismantling structural steel frames and for moving heavy construction machinery and equipment.

Ornamental: Assemble and install grills, canopies, metal stairways, floor gratings, iron ladders, metal window sashes and doors, decorative iron railings and gates and lamp posts.

Reinforcing: Set steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce buildings and bridges.

Local 290 Jurisdiction

The Local’s territory encompasses 20 counties in Ohio and an additional four counties in Indiana. Within Central Ohio, they have jurisdiction in the following counties: 

  • Madison
  • Fayette

About Local 290
Iron Workers Local 290 was chartered in 1919. Through the good times and the bad, Iron Workers Local 290 remains strong in meeting and exceeding the needs of its contractors. The members’ traditions of hard work, fair pay and strong leadership, which built the modern infrastructure of the 20th century, continue today. Their members go above and beyond for each other and often take additional training to stay abreast of the most up-to-date safety standards.

The IW represents 120,000 members in North America.

We represent ironworkers who work on bridges, structural steel, ornamental, architectural and miscellaneous metals, rebar, and in shops across North America. We build safely and skillfully, getting the job done right and on time.
