International Union of Elevator Constructors

IUEC Local 37 represents tradesmen and tradeswomen who work as elevator mechanics. These highly trained and highly skilled craftworkers are responsible for assembling, installing and replacing elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walkways and similar equipment in new and old buildings. Elevator constructors also maintain and repair this equipment and modernize older equipment.

Elevator Constructors Local 37 Jurisdiction

The Local’s territory encompasses 29 counties in Central, Southeastern and Southern Ohio, including all of Central Ohio.

Local 37 is proud to provide the premier elevator constructor workforce within its jurisdiction.

About Local 37

Since the 1970s, the largest project the Local has been involved with has been at The Ohio State University. The campus has about 700 units and the OSU Wexner Medical Center has over 250 additional units, all of which are maintained by Local 37 members.

Today, the Local has roughly 200 members.

Who We Represent

The IUEC represents approximately 30,000 members in the U.S. and Canada who assemble, install and replace elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walkways and similar equipment in new and old buildings. Elevator constructors also maintain and repair this equipment and modernize older equipment.

About the IUEC

Formed in 1901, the International Union of Elevator Constructors works to:

  • Implement the exercise of the natural right of workers to organize so that they may securely work with dignity.
  • Enable its members to participate actively in self-government.
  • Unite into one International Union, as all workers are eligible for membership, regardless of religion, race, creed, color, national origin, age or sex.
  • Secure improved wages, hours, working conditions and other economic advantages for the members through collective bargaining, through advancement of our standing in the community and labor movement.
  • Provide educational advancement and training for officers, employees and members.
  • Safeguard and promote the principle of free collective bargaining, the rights of workers, and the security and welfare of all the people by political, educational and other community activity.
  • Protect and strengthen our democratic institutions and preserve and perpetuate the cherished traditions of democracy.
  • Protect and preserve the union as an institution and in the performance of its legal and contractual obligations.
