Event to spotlight workforce development program success
The Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council, the nonprofit Creating Central Ohio Futures and Franklin County Commissioners are hosting a community open house and BBQ to raise awareness of the Building Futures Apprenticeship Readiness Program and other workforce training programs available to residents of Columbus and Franklin County.
Media will have the chance to tour the training facility, interview local elected officials and meet current Building Futures program trainees and the nonprofit’s board, leadership and staff.
What: Creating Central Ohio Futures Community BBQ & Open House
When: March 28, 3 – 5:30 p.m.
Where: 555 E. Rich St., Columbus (The Teamsters Local Union Hall)
The nonprofit’s signature program, Building Futures, is a 14-week Apprenticeship Readiness Program, funded primarily by the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services. Building Futures provides multi-craft construction and safety training with wrap-around social services to Columbus residents. Building Futures graduates earn placement in one of 18 local building trades registered apprenticeship programs. As apprentices, they will earn family-sustaining wages and benefits while receiving a multi-year, tuition-free education and on-the-job training.
