The Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council proudly endorses Democrat Louise Valentine for Ohio House District 61.
In 2018, Valentine came within 2.7 percent of the vote of flipping a state senate district largely considered uncompetitive.
Valentine strives to advance opportunities for Delaware County families and to pursue the well-being of all Ohioans. She advocates for fully funding Ohio’s public schools and affordable healthcare options for Ohio’s families. She also supports local commerce and its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As someone who has lived her entire life in Ohio, I’m proud to call Ohio my forever home, but we have some work to do to ensure we move forward instead of backward,” Valentine said. “My only goal is to be your next voice at the State House to work for an Ohio that serves us all.”
A life-long resident of Ohio, Valentine attended Elyria public schools and graduated as Salutatorian from Elyria High School in 2000. Her father has been a packaging engineer with the Clorox Company for more than 15 years but first joined the company as a materials handler at the production plant in Cleveland, where he was a member of the International Chemical Workers Union.
Valentine attended the Ohio State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2004 from the College of Human Ecology and a Master’s of Science in 2006. She started her career at the Abercrombie & Fitch headquarters and then moved to a position with L Brands, where she led a consumer testing program for seven years.
In 2018, she left the corporate world and started as Deputy Director for LEAD Ohio, a community non-profit dedicated to supporting progressive candidates in Ohio. The job allows her to meet with voters and leaders throughout the state.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council because it reflects my commitment to unions, collective bargaining, apprenticeship programs and the opportunity for every Ohioan to earn good wages and raise their families safely and comfortably,” Valentine said.
