The Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council proudly endorses Columbus attorney Bill Sperlazza, who seeks to become a Franklin County Court of Common Pleas judge.
Born and raised in Youngstown, Sperlazza began his career working for Columbus City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer in 2005. He spent the past 17 years in Franklin County courthouses, where he handled thousands of cases while practicing criminal, civil and environmental law. A Democrat, Sperlazza has tried dozens of cases before judges and juries in Franklin County. He currently lives in Grandview.
“I’m running because I believe in creating an environment where everyone who enters my courtroom will be treated with fairness, dignity, compassion and respect,” he said.
Sperlazza attended Youngstown State University and graduated magna cum laude. He went to law school at The Ohio State University, where he was Executive Editor of the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law. He also studied abroad at the University of Oxford.
Sperlazza comes from a working-class family with working-class roots. His maternal grandfather served in the U.S. Marine Corps, worked for over 30 years at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and was a lifetime member of the United Steelworkers of America. His paternal grandfather worked for over 30 years in the coal mining industry.
“I am very proud to be endorsed by the Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council,” Sperlazza said. “Growing up in a blue-collar family in a blue-collar town instilled in me an admiration and respect for the dignity of work. I will always be there to support the working class.”
