Don’t miss Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager, as he makes his monthly appearance on America’s Work Force Radio.
Returning to last month’s discussion, Hager told AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc about 95 percent of the construction projects within his jurisdiction have remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the ongoing health concerns related to the coronavirus, these jobs have remained fully staffed.
Additionally, the threat of the virus has not postponed work on major projects such as the $2 billion Wexner Medical Center tower, Crew Stadium, the Hilton Hotel expansion and the Franklin County jail.
As of early May, Ohio State has postponed 16 projects.
Hager also discussed his recent Facebook Live appearance as part of a panel group hosted by Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady to talk about essential workforces.
In March, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine declared Ohio’s construction workforce essential, allowing them to work through his “Stay at Home” order.
Hager, who discussed issues facing members of the building trades during this trying time, also stressed the importance of supporting local businesses, who provide their workers with basic benefits, including health insurance.
The pandemic has helped shed light on the lack of benefits or poor level of benefits for full-time employees in some industries.
