The Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council is proud to endorse Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David Young, for the full-term to expire on June 1, 2021.
“I am seeking another term as a Common Pleas Judge to continue to provide the citizens of Franklin County with my diverse, real world judicial and legal experience,” he said. “I also believe that commitment to public service is a noble endeavor.”
Judge Young completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1983 and earned his J.D. from Washington University (St. Louis, Mo) in 1986.
He worked as a corporate associate at three premiere law firms, Riordan & Mckinzie (Los Angeles, California), Loeb & Loeb (Los Angeles, California) and Smith & Schnacke (Dayton, Ohio), where he maintained a general corporate and transactional practice, including venture capital finance, mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and motion picture finance.
Before opening his own practice, he worked as an assistant Franklin County Prosecutor, prosecuting in excess of 150 felony cases at trial and presenting several hundred cases to the Grand Jury.
Prior to serving as a judge, he founded the Law Office of David Young, where his practice consisted of representing domestic and international public and private corporations and individuals. He represented high-profile media-intense criminal defendants charged with criminal offenses in federal, state and municipal courts throughout the State of Ohio, Los Angeles and Orange County, California. He was lead counsel in excess of 75 jury and bench trials while in private practice.
In 2011, Judge Young was elected to serve the citizens of Franklin County as a judge in the Franklin County Municipal Court, where he serves as the Chairperson of the Specialized Docket Committee, which oversees the five specialized dockets: Drug Court, Opiate Court, Mental Health Court, Veterans Court and C.A.T.C.H. (prostitution court).
Since taking the bench, he has presided over numerous jury and bench criminal and civil trials, and criminal and civil motion hearings. He vigorously resolved many of the backlogged civil cases he inherited, some of which were at least six years old. In his time on the bench, he has made his civil docket compliant with the Ohio Supreme Court Rules of Superintendence and made it a priority to make timely decisions in order to further the efficiency of his docket.
In addition to being the chairperson of the Specialized Docket Committee, Judge Young is a member of the personnel, finance and court-appointed counsel committees.
Judge Young is active in the Franklin County community serving on the Board of Trustees of the Alvis House, a member of Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis Club of Dublin, Shamrock Club, Franklin County Democratic Lawyers Club and a parishioner of St. Brigid of Kildare Church.
He believes his experience – both on and off the bench – make him the most viable candidate for this position.
“I dedicated my legal career to assisting individuals and companies in Franklin County and have served the citizens of Franklin County as both a Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court Judge,” he said. “I have assisted thousands of individuals, companies and organizations with their legal matters and continue to do so every day as a Judge.”
“Judge David Young has done a tremendous job as Common Pleas Judge in Franklin County,” said Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager. “His knowledge and experience serve him well on the bench. He has earned the endorsement of the Columbus Building Trades and hopefully another term from the voters of Franklin County.”
Judge Young, a Democrat, has also been endorsed by the Franklin County Democratic Party and the Stonewall Democrats.
