Republican Larry Householder defeated Ryan Smith in a January vote, due in large part to the Democrat support. Hager indicated past history is a good reference for what to expect, and based on Householder’s last term as Speaker, Hager believes there will be few, if any, legislative attacks on unions. Two of Householder’s five sons are members of the building trades – one is an IBEW member and the other is an operating engineer, plus his wife is a teacher, so he understands how unions help working Ohioans.

Talk then transitioned to a recent career fair and a recent contractor fair. Both events were well attended, despite the cold weather. Hager said the career fair was held in one of the CelebrateOne neighborhoods. The contractor fair helped area contractors learn how to get prequalified for City projects such as Linden

Recreation Center and sports complex.

This conversation then led to a discussion about the major projects going on in the central Ohio area. Hager said his members are busying working on the following projects: OSU Wexner Medical Center, Facebook datacenter, Google datacenter and Franklin County Jail. He hopes they will soon be working on a new stadium for the Crew.
