Become an Apprentice

Construction is booming in Central Ohio

The building trades unions affiliated with the Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council are in need of apprentices.

Due to the construction boom and the retirement of the Baby Boomer generation, there is an immediate need for apprentices with all C/COBCTC affiliated unions to become the next generation of journeymen.

There has never been a better time to become a member of the building trades.

Discover why an apprenticeship is an excellent pathway to a challenging career and a middle-class lifestyle.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship through a registered building trades apprenticeship program offers men and women, regardless of race, age or religion, excellent career opportunities by training them to become highly skilled construction workers ready to take on jobs that will be both personally satisfying and lucrative.

Instead of working every day in an office performing mundane tasks, construction workers perform exciting and challenging work as they construct a building or some type of infrastructure.

The Earn While You Learn Model

Apprentices earn while they learn, meaning they receive on-the-job training and classroom instruction while earning a living wage. The earn while you learn model used by registered building trades apprenticeship programs allow apprentices to learn the trade from experienced journeymen and gain valuable insight and knowledge on a number of different aspects of their job. Additionally, they receive mandatory classroom instruction, where they are taught many of the fundamentals and advanced concepts they will use throughout their career.

While working, apprentices:

  • Earn a paycheck and receive a living wage
  • Receive scheduled pay raises based on their advancement in the apprenticeship program
  • Earn excellent full-family health insurance
  • Receive great retirement benefits
  • Do not go in debt by taking out student loans
  • Earn industry-leading safety certifications
